President's Address - Opening of Pan Is Beautiful XII

Address by Mr. Keith Diaz, President of Pan Trinbago, at the opening day of Pan Is Beautiful XII on Saturday October 5th, 2013 at the Queens Park Savannah, Port of Spain.

KeithDiaz-1Thank you, Master of Ceremonies
Honorable Lincoln Douglas, Minister of Arts and Multiculturalism all protocols observed.

The moment of excitement has arrived – the performance is about to begin. The instruments have been well tuned, and their shining exteriors speak of the care with which the performer has made his preparations.

Every nuance, every musical construction receives the kind of attention that only the maestro knows how to.

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Pan Is Beautiful XII, segment of the Pan Is Beautiful Series.

At the outset permit me to congratulate Colonel Edison Isaac and his team, for the great job that they did in seeing that this Steelband Music Festival be a reality. It was not easy I know, because having to spend so much of one’s valuable time in the pursuit of an excellence that at times seemed so elusive, that it could have been a frustrating exercise, but your willingness to assist the Steelband effort overcame any hindrance that may have arisen and for this I salute you.

The Pan Is Beautiful Series is an extremely important aspect of the Steelband Movement. This is an area of musical discipline, which not only truly test the dexterity and discipline of the musician; it also levels the playing field.

In a Steelband Music Festival there are no “Crackshots”.
Ladies and gentlemen, how I wish that more of our young people could be exposed to a daily diet of Classical Music. What about starting our Pre Schools with Music Appreciation time? Why can we not expose them to Maracas Bay, Intermezzo In E Flat, Boca Chimes, Moonlight Sonata and all such classical pieces that would enrich their spirits and guide their minds to a more serene and calming place.

I am satisfied that the Steelband Music gives added value to our society and as a people we need to sit up and take note of the advantages this instrument gives to this Country.

There is a new consciousness sweeping through certain West African States and we at Pan Trinbago have been positioning ourselves to service the emerging markets in Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa. These are exciting times with so much that is positive happening.

Ladies and Gentlemen I am very happy to welcome you to Pan Is Beautiful XII.

Thank you.
