NGC COUVA JOYLANDERS

Joylanders-PIBXII-Orchestra-Finals-019In the early 1960's, the town of Couva boasted of two (2) steel orchestras, Cadenzas Steel Orchestra (Exchange Village) and Joylanders Steel Orchestra (St. Andrews Village). During that period, there was understandably keen rivalry between these two (2) bands for the title "Best Band in Couva".

In 1961, the managers of band Bands decided to end the rivalry and form a merger of both bands resulting in a community based Band under the name Couva Joylanders Steel Orchestra.

From 1961 onwards, with an enlarged membership the Band took part in many domestic and regional (Central/County Caroni) Carnival competitions. The Band was very successful at these events, always in winner's row.

However, in 1976 the Band took its initial venture into the South and National Panorama Competitions.

For most of the 1980's and early 1990's, the Band remained dormant until an initiative by the individuals from both primary and secondary schools within the Community for junior pan competitions. This proved to be quite a success and an investment as many of the young players went on to become full time members of the band.

The impetus and enthusiasm of these young members under the guidance of senior band members was responsible for the ongoing development of the Organization.

The beginning of 2013 was a new dawn for Joylanders. A deal was struck with the National Gas Company of Trinidad & Tobago for full sponsorship. The official name of the band is the NGC Couvalanders Steel Orchestra.

In addition to its core business of music and entertainment, The NGC Couva Joylanders Steel Orchestra is strongly involved and devoted to the training and development of individuals within the community.
